CEI, which owns and operates the Website, is committed to ensuring that your privacy is protected.  This is important, so we hope you will take time to read it carefully.

The terms “we,” “our,” and “us,” in this Privacy Policy refer to CEI.  “You” and “your” refer to you as a user of the Website.

BY ACCESSING AND/OR USING THE SITE, YOU SIGNIFY THAT YOU HAVE READ THIS PRIVACY POLICY AND AGREE TO BE BOUND BY, AND COMPLY WITH, ITS TERMS.  IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO BE BOUND BY, AND COMPLY WITH, THESE TERMS, PLEASE LEAVE AND DO NOT ACCESS THE SITE.

Information We Collect

Information is collected from you at several different points during your visit to the Website.

Information You Give Us

At certain points during your visit to the Website you may be asked to provide information about yourself, or given the option to provide certain information. The active collection points on our Website include:

The information requested may include your email address, name, phone number, and/or information about your business and your previous interactions with CEI. When you register for certain workshops and training we may request detailed demographic information required by our funders (including Federal agencies such as the SBA and HUD).

You have the choice about whether to disclose the information necessary to use these features.

Payment Information

CEI uses a third-party service, Stripe, to process any payments or donations through the Site. CEI does not collect any payment information through the Site, and Stripe records viewable by CEI staff are limited to the purchaser’s name, email, zip code, card expiry date, and the last four digits of the payment card.  Access to these Stripe records is restricted to a limited number of CEI staff based on their job function.  Stripe’s privacy policy governs the collection and use of information collected through Stripe’s website.  Please also refer to the section of this Privacy Policy (“When this Privacy Policy Applies”) dealing with links to other websites.

Passive Collection of Information

In addition to information that you actively provide us, we collect information about how you interact with the Website. For example, like many websites, we use “cookies,” web beacons, and remarketing services (which are discussed in more detail below).  The types of passive information collected by the Website include, but are not necessarily limited to, your IP address, which type of browser you are using, where you go on the Website, and how long you stay on any part of the Website.

Analytics, Trackers & Cookies

Analytics

We use the services of third parties, including Google Analytics and Hotjar, to collect and analyze statistical data about visitors to our Website, and to collect certain information and send out emails and other mailings/correspondence.  Some of these analytic and/or mailing services collect personally identifiable information about you.  You can opt out of Google’s use of cookies by visiting Google’s Ads Settings page, located here:  http://google.com/settings/ads/onweb/optout?hl=en.

Hotjar

We also use Hotjar in order to better understand our users’ needs and to optimize our services and your experience. Hotjar is a technology service that helps us better understand our users’ experience (e.g. how much time they spend on which pages, which links they choose to click, what users do and don’t like, etc.) and this enables us to better build and maintain our services. Hotjar uses cookies and other technologies to collect data on our users’ behavior and their devices. This includes a device’s IP address (processed during your session and stored in a de-identified form), device screen size, device type (unique device identifiers), browser information, geographic location (country only), and the preferred language used to display our website. Hotjar stores this information on our behalf in a pseudonymized user profile. Hotjar is contractually forbidden to sell any of the data collected on our behalf.

For further details, please see the ‘about Hotjar’ section of Hotjar’s support site.

We use both session ID cookies and persistent cookies.  A session ID cookie expires when you close your browser.  A persistent cookie remains on your hard drive for an extended period of time.

We use session cookies to monitor your interaction with the Website.  We also use permanent cookies to track click streams.  We do not link cookie data to personally identifiable information.

You can instruct your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. The “help” feature on most browsers provides information on how to accept cookies, disable cookies, and how to receive a notice when receiving a new cookie.  If you do not accept cookies, you may not be able to use some features of our Site.
