Describe your business in one sentence.

Hand Therapy Treatment and Education Center , LLP provides exceptional quality Occupational/Hand Therapy services to patients and video recorded education to students, community, and insurance companies.

What unique perspective/skills do you bring to your business?

We have developed a unique social franchise model in which videorecorded therapy encounters showcase therapeutic techniques, patient challenges, and successes. The videos provide the various listeners with knowledge and data.

What were the biggest challenges you faced in starting your business? In running it?

The biggest challenges have been the awareness of the clinic services in the community at large and proficiency with technology.

Did CEI help you overcome any of these challenges? Describe how you have worked with our team.

CEI has been supportive and collaborative to understand the economic needs of a start-up clinic. CEI understood our vision and this support assisted in making the initial purchases for the clinic videography component.

What are your hopes for your business in the next 1–3 years?

We plan to expand, additional clinics throughout Maine and New England with professionals from the therapy and graphic arts worlds. These will model the flagship clinic in Brunswick. We will have a staff of expert therapists in hand and UE therapy and robust database of patient data to assist with student education and research studies.

What steps are you taking to reduce your business’s carbon footprint and/or make your business environmentally sustainable? What might make it easier to improve your business’s environmental sustainability or climate resilience?

We are environmentally friendly with our purchases, recycling and re-use products whenever possible. Many of our therapy tools are functional, everyday items that can be re-purposed or used for multiple purposes.

If you identify with a specific group—veterans, rural residents, women, LGBTQ+ individuals, immigrants, Black entrepreneurs, etc.—do you have any words of wisdom for others from that group starting or running a business?

The co-owners are residents of a rural Maine community. Both grew up in the Midcoast region. We understand the challenges of living and working in a rural state. Brian is a US Army veteran and has been a US government employee.
